Not your average movie experience – London’s quirky cinemas

London Hotels with Cinemas-Georgian House Hotel

Looking for something different to do this weekend or Easter holiday? What’s not to love about treating yourself popcorn, Pic ‘n’ Mix and a good film? If you’re planning to sit back and watch a thrilling, scary or romantic story unfold, why not add a twist and try one of London’s quirkiest cinemas that really add the wow factor.

Hot Tub Cinema

Says it in the name! For a super cool Friday night with your pals, this rooftop cinema is becoming increasingly popular, with 30 hot tubs awaiting at the top ready to watch some great movies. Book tickets for up to 6 of your friends and watch the sun set behind you as you take your underwater seats and relax with some drinks and your favourite film. With Summer on its way, keep an eye on upcoming events at the Hot Tub Cinema for the most memorable night out.

The Edible Cinema

Don’t take this name too literally, but you’d be right to think the Edible Cinema involves food… and lots of it! You’ve shuffled through the dark theatre and eventually found your allocated seat, where you’ll find small numbered containers on a tray. The numbers are the important part, as throughout the movie, a little green light will appear telling you which numbered container you can open to eat/drink the contents inside. The point? Food items on the menu completely depend on the on-screen story you’re following! When the actors stop for something to eat, so do you. If the scene is set in a pine forest (like in Pan’s Labyrinth), it’ll be time for you to snack on some pine smoked popcorn. The concept essentially is to not only see the film, but taste the film too and is highly recommended as a cinema experience like no other! Such Hollywood favourites as When Harry Met Sally, Beetlejuice and Romeo and Juliet have been successful past events at the Edible Cinema, so who knows what culinary experience is coming next!

The Electric Cinema

Cinema in bed? Try not to fall asleep in the Electric Cinema’s luxurious double beds in front of the screen while the upright and boring folding seats look down in envy at your ultimate comfort. Just as if you were snuggling up to a night of Netflix at home, the Electric Cinema is perfect for a super chilled out evening with your partner, you won’t want to leave!

Secret Cinema

A solid 10/10 on the quirk scale, the Secret Cinema is a truly immersive experience and the more you get involved, the more memorable the night will be! Expect character or era themed dress up along with food and drinks while you mingle with the other movie-goers in the atmosphere of the story. Why is it so secret? The venue continuously changes to locations that are meant to accentuate the film, so you never know where it’s going to be! This evening out to the cinema brings film to life by combining music, theatre, film and more to send you on a place-making adventure.

Rooftop Film Club

We’re back on the roof again, but this time not in a hot tub! Lean back on a deckchair and wrap up in a blanket ready to watch a classic or recent movie with a choice of delicious drinks and snacks. With spectacular views of lit-up London, Rooftop Film Club takes full advantage of the city’s beauty and is perfect for an evening chill-out with your mates or cosy up with a loved one. Don’t worry, the cinema is well-prepared for English weather and has ponchos at the ready should the rain start to fall!

Spoilt for choice. These cinemas among others dotted around the capital are a guaranteed unique experience. All you need is popcorn and good company!
