Going to Apollo Victoria? Stay Close, Sleep Well

May 13, 2026 by Mark

A West End show is a big occasion. You’ve got the tickets, you’ve sorted the evening, and now you need somewhere to stay that doesn’t use up all the budget or add unnecessary stress to the day. If you’re heading to the Apollo Victoria Theatre – home to Wicked, now in its milestone 20th anniversary year – you’re going to want a base that puts you right in the heart of things.

Georgian House Hotel is a short walk from the Apollo Victoria, tucked into the streets of Pimlico – a central and characterful part of London that most visitors fall for. It’s the perfect base for a London theatre trip.

Why location matters more than you think

The Apollo Victoria sits on Wilton Road, just across from Victoria Station. Georgian House is on St George’s Drive in Pimlico, meaning you can walk to and from the theatre without worrying about the last tube or late-night Ubers. After a two-hour-and-forty-five-minute show, the ability to stroll back to a comfortable room rather than battle the tube is, frankly, a luxury in itself.

Victoria Station is one of London’s major transport hubs, so whether you’re arriving from across the city, from the south of England, or straight off the Gatwick Express, getting to Georgian House and settling in before your night out will be straightforward.

A hotel with a personality of its own

Georgian House isn’t your average London hotel. It’s a Grade II listed building that’s been in the same family since it was built in 1851, and it shows – in the best possible way. The rooms are all individually designed, no two alike, with hand-picked furniture, bold colour choices, and the kind of character that’s genuinely hard to manufacture.

Fair warning, because we like to always be upfront about this: there’s no lift, and no air conditioning. What there is, though, is a warm welcome, rooms built around real comfort and personality, and a team happy to help with questions, your luggage and support during your stay. If you’re after a authentic and welcoming stay in a beautiful London townhouse, this is for you!

Wizard Chamber room for romantic things to do in London

There’s also the Wizard Chambers – a collection of enchanting, magic-themed rooms that have become something of a talking point. If you’re heading to Wicked with younger theatregoers in tow, they make the perfect addition to the trip, and you could add our very popular Wizard Afternoon Tea to your stay to enjoy some tasty treats and potions!

Making a night of it

One of the advantages of staying near the Apollo Victoria is that the Victoria and Pimlico area gives you genuine options before and after the show. There’s a good range of restaurants and bars within easy reach, and Pimlico itself has a number of high quality independents that will give you a true London experience.

With Wicked running for nearly 3 hours, an early dinner before the show is a good idea – and consider a drink somewhere close afterwards before you head back. The short, picturesque walk back to Georgian House at the end of the night – rather than onto a packed commuter service – is one of those small things that makes the whole trip feel worth it.

Breakfast the morning after

Start the next morning properly with breakfast at Georgian House’s Pimlico Pantry. It’s a chance to take stock, compare notes on the show the night before, and decide what London has in store for the rest of your trip. There’s no rush here – it’s a boutique hotel, not a conveyor belt, and the breakfasts are rightly celebrated for the wide range of freshly made produce.

Wicked in 2026: worth the trip

If you haven’t seen Wicked yet, 2026 is a good year to go. The show is marking its 20th anniversary at the Apollo Victoria – a milestone that’s rare in West End theatre. It’s already one of the longest-running productions in West End history and books up quickly. Getting your tickets sorted in advance is strongly recommended.

The show is recommended for ages 7 and above, and children under 5 are not admitted. Evening performances run Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm. Running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes including a 20-minute interval.

Book your stay near the Apollo Victoria

Georgian House Hotel is a short walk from the Apollo Victoria and Victoria Station, in the heart of Pimlico. Rooms are individually designed and we pride ourselves on our welcome! Check our availability and plan your stay around the show.

Chelsea Flower Show Weekend, Without the London Chaos

May 8, 2026 by Mark

Chelsea Flower Show is one of those rare London events where the city genuinely shifts gear. From 19–23 May 2026, the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea become the centre of the gardening world, with show gardens, designers and an awful lot of carefully arranged plants drawing crowds from across the globe. It’s wonderful. It’s also, predictably, busy.

If you’re heading to the show, the place you choose to stay can shape the whole weekend. Chelsea tends to be heaving with visitors. Our suggestion: stay in Pimlico, walk to the show, and get a bit of peace and quiet after tackling the crowds of flower enthusiasts.

Why Pimlico is a smart base for the show

Pimlico sits between Victoria and the river, on the same side of the Thames as the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Georgian House is on St George’s Drive, comfortably within walking distance of the show grounds for anyone happy with a stroll, and a short cab or tube hop if not. You get the proximity without the price tag (or the queues for tables) that come with staying in Chelsea itself.

The other advantage is the neighbourhood itself. Pimlico is leafy, residential and largely unbothered by the May rush. After a long day on your feet at the show, returning to a calmer pocket of central London is genuinely restorative.

A boutique base with character

Georgian House Hotel is a Grade II listed building that’s been in the same family since 1851. The rooms are individually designed, no two alike, with hand-picked furniture, original details and a real sense of personality. After a day surrounded by considered planting and clever design at Chelsea, there’s a pleasing rhythm to coming back to a hotel that has put a similar level of thought into its own spaces.

A few honest details: there’s no lift, and no air conditioning – we’re an authentic historical building. May in London is usually mild, and fans are provided in every room. If you’d prefer a ground floor room, just say so when booking and the team will do their best.

Plan your show day around real life

Chelsea Flower Show runs 8am to 8pm Tuesday to Friday, and 8am to 5:30pm on Saturday, with the famous plant sell-off starting at 4pm on the final day. Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 May are RHS members’ days; Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 May are open to the public. Tickets sell out, so booking ahead is essential.

chelsea flower show

Plan for three to five hours inside the showground. The Great Pavilion alone takes time, and that’s before you’ve worked your way around the show gardens. Comfortable shoes, a refillable water bottle and a light layer for British weather are sensible. Then come back, kick off the shoes, and decompress somewhere quiet.

If you can’t get tickets, Chelsea in Bloom is brilliant

Chelsea in Bloom runs at the same time as the main show (19–23 May 2026) and turns the streets around Sloane Square, King’s Road and Pavilion Road into an enormous, free, open-air floral display. Shopfronts compete with extraordinary installations, and the whole thing is genuinely worth a wander even if you do have show tickets.

From Pimlico, it’s a pleasant walk through Belgravia or a short bus or tube hop. Combine it with lunch in one of Chelsea’s independent spots and you’ve got a relaxed half-day plan with no ticket required.

Pimlico’s own gardens are also worth a visit

If Chelsea has put you in a green-fingered mood, Pimlico has more to offer than people realise. St George’s Square Gardens, Pimlico Gardens and the riverside green spaces along the Thames are all within easy reach of the hotel, and largely tourist-free. They’re a lovely way to ease into the morning before heading to the show, or to wind down with a coffee afterwards.A little further on the other side of the River is also the Garden Museum, which has its own beautiful gardens and runs events during Chelsea Flower Show week.

For ideas, our guide to Pimlico’s parks and gardens is a good place to start.

Where to eat without the show-week scrum

Restaurants in Chelsea fill up dramatically during show week, and tables get booked weeks in advance. Pimlico, by contrast, has plenty of independent neighbourhood spots that don’t require the same level of planning. Cafes, wine bars and proper local pubs sit a few minutes from the hotel, and breakfast at the Pimlico Pantry sets you up neatly before a long day on your feet.

Plan your Chelsea Flower Show stay

Chelsea Flower Show weekend is busy across central London, and rooms in this part of town go quickly. Georgian House is a calm, characterful base in Pimlico, walkable to the show grounds and well placed for everything else you’ll want to do that weekend. See our rooms and check availability here

How to Feel at Home in a City of 9 Million: A London Stay Worth Remembering

April 24, 2026 by Mark

London can be exhilarating, but it can also feel like you’re constantly “on”. You’re navigating crowds, decisions, noise, and a timetable that never really slows down. When you’re looking for where to stay in London that feels like home, you’re usually not asking for silence or isolation. You’re asking for calm. For warmth. For a place that genuinely has your back between the busy bits.

Georgian House Hotel in Pimlico is built for exactly that. Set in a handsome townhouse, it has the character of a proper London building — individual, a little eccentric, and a lot more welcoming than your average hotel. Rooms are designed to feel like they belong to someone, and the hotel is refreshingly upfront about what you get, which makes everything easier from the moment you arrive.

Choose a neighbourhood that makes London feel liveable

A big part of feeling comfortable in London is what happens outside the front door. Pimlico is central, but it doesn’t feel like it’s performing. It’s more residential in character, which makes a real difference when you’re arriving after a long journey or coming back after a full day on your feet.

You still have London on tap — Victoria, Chelsea, Belgravia, Buckingham Palace all within easy reach — but you return to streets that have actually calmed down. That contrast is often exactly what people mean when they say a place feels like home.

Let your room do the heavy lifting

Home is rarely one big feature. It’s the small things that let you switch off without having to think about it.

Every room at Georgian House is individually designed — no two quite the same — with tea and coffee facilities, superfast complimentary Wi-Fi, and a proper set-up whether you’re unpacking for a week, catching up on emails, or just having a slow morning. In a city where a lot of hotel rooms feel like they’ve been copy-pasted, that individuality actually matters.

Boutique chic with comfort in mind

Comfort isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s what turns a good trip into a great one. A room with genuine character. Warmth that’s consistent and considered. The kind of stay where you get back in the evening and actually look forward to being there.

Georgian House brings together 170 years of history, 45 individually designed rooms, and a team that genuinely cares about your stay. The building combines beautiful architecture, stylish design touches and real personality to give you an authentic and unforgettable stay.

How to make a London stay feel like home

If you want London to feel less full-on, the trick isn’t doing less — it’s building in recovery. A hotel that’s warm and well-considered makes this far easier. A few things that genuinely help:

  • Start one morning slowly — even just staying put with a decent coffee and breakfast in Pimlico Pantry before heading out.
  • Give yourself a return point in the day so you’re not always pushing forward.
  • Keep your first evening simple. Getting settled is part of the trip, not a gap in it.
  • Take one no-pressure walk nearby. It’s the quickest way to feel like you’re actually staying in London, not just passing through.

A stay worth remembering

People remember the stays where they felt settled quickly. Where comfort didn’t need chasing. Where the hotel felt like a genuine base rather than just a place to sleep.

If you’re choosing where to stay in London that feels like home, Georgian House is a strong fit — calm, characterful, and central, with a very warm welcome!

If You’re Craving Quiet in London, Here’s How Georgian House Surprises Guests

April 12, 2026 by Mark

London doesn’t really switch off. Even when you’re having a brilliant time, there’s a point where you just want fewer voices, fewer decisions, and somewhere that actually feels like a place to come back to — not just a room you’ve paid for.

If you’re searching for quiet places to stay in central London, Georgian House Hotel has a few tricks up its sleeve. Not because it’s miles from everything, but because it’s set up to give you breathing space while keeping the city on your doorstep. Pimlico helps too — tucked-away enough to feel calm, central enough that you’re never far from the action.

A central location that doesn’t feel chaotic

The first surprise is the setting. Georgian House is in Pimlico, a short hop from Victoria, but well clear of the tourist chaos. Think leafy streets, a slightly slower pace, and a neighbourhood that feels more like a local secret than a London landmark.

This is the difference between being central and feeling central. You can get wherever you need to go, then come back to streets that have actually calmed down a bit.

A townhouse feel that naturally softens the noise

Georgian House is a handsome Georgian townhouse, and that makes for a very different atmosphere to the bigger, blander hotels people often end up defaulting to in London. It feels personal, considered, and genuinely easy to relax in — the kind of place that’s been looked after, not just managed.

We keep things straightforward too. No air conditioning, but fans are provided, and in keeping with our period architecture there is no lift — we’ll always tell you what to expect before you arrive. No nasty surprises, just honest hospitality.

Rooms designed for unwinding, not just sleeping

quiet room in London

Quiet isn’t only about sound levels. It’s also about whether your room actually helps you decompress.
Every room at Georgian House is individually designed — no identikit interiors here — with tea and coffee facilities, superfast complimentary Wi-Fi, and proper workspace set-ups for when you need them. The kind of basics that make a real difference after a full day in the city.

The “quiet London” you can actually reach on foot

If you’re after calm, you don’t want to spend half your day on the Tube getting to it. Georgian House Hotel is perfectly situated for some of the best of the quieter side of central London: garden squares, riverside stretches, and local walks that let you step out of the buzz without going anywhere near a tourist map.

Pimlico is genuinely great for this. Do the big London moments, then balance them out with the slower pockets that make a trip feel like it was actually worth taking.

A simple way to plan a quieter London stay

If you’re travelling for rest as much as sightseeing, keep it simple. Pick a calm base, build in time for slower mornings, and swap the constant transport hops for a proper neighbourhood wander. Georgian House’s blog is a good place to start if you want ideas on doing London at a slightly more human pace.

A Bridgerton-Inspired Day Out in London

April 1, 2026 by Mark

A Bridgerton-style day in London, done properly

London doesn’t need to pretend to be a period drama. Much of the city’s Regency and Georgian character is the real thing: gracious terraces, grand façades, garden squares and parks that still carry the same sense of polish and romance. Take it at an unhurried pace, build in time for photos, and make space for the fun bits too, like a proper afternoon tea or an evening plan with a little flourish. This itinerary is Bridgerton-inspired rather than a strict filming-location checklist, so it’s built for atmosphere and enjoyment, not box-ticking.

If you’re making a weekend of it, Georgian House Hotel is a particularly fitting base because it’s an authentic Georgian property still run by the same family, so the Bridgerton mood starts the moment you walk through the door. With its period character and London address, it’s perfect for fans who want their stay to feel as transportive as the day itself, and it’s ideal for heading out to explore, then coming back to freshen up before the evening’s plans, whether that’s a candlelit concert, a Regency-inspired experience, or cocktails somewhere suitably glamorous.

Start with streets that feel timeless

The quickest way to tap into the aesthetic is choosing the right streets. Look for areas with terraces, crescents, iron railings, pale stonework and those classic front doors. Keep the pace slow and let the architecture do the work. From Georgian House Hotel you can step straight into Pimlico’s Georgian terraces – you’re immediately surrounded by the details that make the era so photogenic: pale stucco façades, iron railings, symmetry for days, and those perfectly proper front doors.

A simple way to structure your morning is giving yourself one small mission: find a handful of streets you love, take a few photos you’ll actually keep, and stop for coffee when you spot somewhere that fits the vibe.

Add a park stroll to soften the day

A Bridgerton-inspired plan needs a green-space moment. London parks and gardens are perfect for a gentle walk, a sit-down breather, and that “strolling and chatting” energy.

If it’s grey, don’t ditch the park idea. London looks beautiful in moody weather too, and you’ll get more atmospheric photos. The key is choosing a park close to where you already are, so you’re not spending half the day travelling across the city.

Pick one culture stop that feels light and elegant

A museum or historic house works brilliantly for this theme, as long as you keep it easy. For full Regency grandeur, Apsley House delivers the kind of high-society London that Bridgerton fans dream about. If you prefer something more intimate and deliciously theatrical, Sir John Soane’s Museum feels like stepping into a Regency collector’s world, with skylit rooms and clever hidden corners. Choose one, wander for an hour, pick a few favourites, and leave before it turns into a marathon, because this is meant to feel like a treat, not a workout.

Sir John Soane’s Museum

Do a little shopping that matches the mood

This is where you find one small treasure that makes the day feel complete and still feels perfectly “of the era”. For the most authentic Regency shopping atmosphere, head to Burlington Arcade or the Royal Opera Arcade, where the architecture itself does half the work, all covered walkways, tidy storefronts, and that gentle promenade pace. Keep it simple and personal: something pretty, useful, and not destined to sit in a drawer. A ribbon, a notebook, a fragrance, a book, a subtle piece of jewellery, or any small find that feels like a “London romance” souvenir.

Build in one ‘treat’ moment

To make the day feel special, plan one indulgent stop, whether that’s a sit-down lunch, a sweet treat somewhere pretty, or a leisurely break that slows everything down. Try not to leave it too late. Long walks plus browsing has a habit of turning into sudden hunger.

If you’re staying at Georgian House Hotel, this is also where having a base helps. You can reset and change before dinner rather than rushing straight from daytime wandering into your evening plans.

Finish with a golden-hour walk and an easy dinner plan

If you can, time your final stroll for late afternoon into early evening when London looks its best. You don’t need a packed night. One good meal and a gentle walk is plenty for a day like this.

How to get the Bridgerton feel without dressing up

If you want to go all-in, go for it. If you don’t, small choices do the job: a soft colour palette, one pretty accessory, polished-but-comfortable shoes, and a bag that won’t annoy you all day. The aim is “occasion”, not fancy dress.

Where Georgian House Hotel fits

A themed London day works best when your base matches the tone. Georgian House Hotel suits a classic London weekend and makes it easy to explore by day and come back to an authentic Georgian townhouse toreset before the evening. If you’re planning your trip now, booking your stay first keeps everything else simple.

Ready to plan your Bridgerton-inspired London break?

Book your stay at Georgian House Hotel and turn a day out into an unhurried London weekend with plenty of beautiful moments.

What to Do in London Before and After a Gig

March 27, 2026 by Mark

Make gig day feel easy, not stressful

A big London concert should feel exciting from the moment you wake up, not like you’re managing a timetable. If you’re heading to Harry Styles at Wembley Stadium, the smartest approach is treating the show as the centre of a full day, with simple plans either side that keep your energy up and the faff down.

This guide is written with Harry fans in mind, but it works for any Wembley night: a calm daytime plan, a smooth pre-gig routine, and a post-show approach that avoids the classic “where are we, why is my phone on 2%?” moment.

Georgian House Hotel is a strong choice if you want a characterful London base for your concert weekend. It’s the kind of place that suits a day of exploring followed by an evening out, without your plans feeling overcomplicated.

A simple Wembley-friendly timeline

You don’t need a packed itinera – start by choosing the vibe you want:

  • Soft and steady: slow morning, one main wander, early dinner, head to Wembley
  • Full fan day: shopping and photos, a proper sit-down meal, then Wembley

Either way, build in a late-afternoon break. That’s your chance to freshen up, charge your phone, and head out feeling ready rather than rushed.

Where to spend the day before the show

For a Wembley night, the best daytime plan is somewhere you can enjoy without clock-watching. Think neighbourhoods made for wandering, browsing, and stopping when you feel like it.

A great pre-gig London day usually includes a mix of:

  • a walk with genuinely good London scenery
  • an hour of browsing (vintage, books, music, beauty, whatever matches your vibe)
  • a café stop where you can sit properly
  • one photo moment that feels like part of the trip, not a chore

You don’t need to chase specific “Harry was here” claims to make it feel special. If you’re here for the mood, London delivers!

The meal decision that saves your night

The biggest gig-day mistake is leaving food too late. Wembley will be busy, you’ll be on your feet, and post-show hunger is real.

Aim for an early dinner that’s filling but not heavy. If you’re going with friends, pick somewhere that won’t rush you and consider booking ahead, so the build-up feels fun rather than frantic.

Your Wembley gig checklist

One list only, and it’s here to make the whole day smoother.

  • Portable charger and a cable you trust
  • A light layer for the journey home
  • A small bag you can carry for hours
  • Water for the queue and the walk back (500ml or less to get through bag check at Wembley!)
  • ID and whatever you need for entry
  • A meeting point agreed for after the show
  • Your route back saved before you leave

Getting to Wembley without the last-minute panic

The best Wembley strategy is simple: leave earlier than you think you need to, and don’t treat the journey like a race. Crowds, platform changes, and slow-moving stations can all add time, especially on big event nights. Be sure to check your route a few hours before in case of any delays on public transport!

If you’re planning a proper outfit moment, give yourself extra time. You want the build-up to feel exciting, not stressful. And if you’re meeting friends, decide what time you’re heading over together before the day starts. It’s surprisingly easy to lose half an hour to “Where are you?” messages.

After the show, keep the vibe good

Leaving Wembley is part of the experience. It’s busy and loud, and everyone’s running on adrenaline. The trick is not trying to do everything at once.

Pick one approach and commit to it:

  • Wait it out for a short while after the final song, then travel once the first surge has passed
  • Walk a bit first, get some distance, then head for your route when it feels calmer

If you’re meeting friends after the show, stick to a simple plan. Phones die. Messages don’t send. Everyone ends up saying “I’m by a sign” with no useful details. A clear meeting point makes a huge difference.

If you’re staying overnight in London, you’ll get the best version of the end of the night. You can take your time, let the crowds move, and head back when you’re ready rather than sprinting for the last train.

If you’re travelling in for Harry Styles, make it a weekend if you can

If you’ve come to London specifically for Harry, even one extra night can change the feel of the trip. You can spend the next morning having a slow breakfast, doing a final wander, and reliving the night without immediately dragging yourself to a platform.

It also avoids the most exhausting option: a late-night commute home with tired feet and a hoarse voice. Staying over turns the concert into a proper experience, not a dash in and out.

Where Georgian House Hotel fits into a Wembley gig night

For a Wembley show, you want a base that makes your day simple: somewhere you can start the morning calmly, reset before the evening, and return to after the show without it feeling like another mission.

Georgian House Hotel is well suited to that kind of concert weekend. It gives you a comfortable, characterful place to come back to before and after the big night, and it makes the whole plan feel more like a treat, not just a place to sleep.

Ready to make your Wembley night feel effortless?

Book your stay at Georgian House Hotel, plan a calm daytime wander, and give yourself a proper base for the evening. You’ll enjoy the build-up, the show, and the afterglow so much more.
