It’s back, it’s bigger and it’s better. The Totally Thames festival has returned for another month of events where you can hear great music, see fascinating art, enjoy some family fun and even dine, all along the River Thames!
Where do we begin? Whether you are interested in London’s history, architecture or simply fancy something different to do for the weekend, there will definitely be something for you to enjoy at this year’s festival. First and most notably, expect a magnificent musical production at the one cathedral that was the only entrance into the City of London from across the river for centuries. The Southwark Cathedral is not just a place of worship, as this year the grand doors will be opening for an audience to enter into a world of fantastic music. Until the 26th September, take your seat at one of the many thrilling performances to celebrate the Thames. Our recommendations include the Sacred Rivers – Early Music from the New World where you will be delighted and very moved by this thrilling and distinctive music that is an American South tradition.
Throughout the month, many selected restaurants are joining in on the celebration and offering mouth-watering discounts alongside a beautiful view of the river, so how can you say no? Head over to Gillray’s Steakhouse and Bar in Waterloo where you can take full advantage of 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses plus a cocktail for £29! If you would prefer a classic English pub or family-friendly environment, then try out The Blue Anchor in Hammersmith where there is a great bargain of a set lunch/dinner AND a complimentary glass of wine for £17. On the 26th September, pub quiz meets cruise for the Totally Thames Quiz on a Boat. See how many of the 50 questions you can master as you cruise your way along the Thames! The quiz is guaranteed to be an exciting challenge and a great evening for a group of friends, with questions that correspond with what you can see out of the boat window. Of course, the winners receive a London themed goody bag to take as their prize and a bit of an ego boost too. The cruise departs from Westminster Pier at 7pm, don’t miss it!
In every family, there is always a creative one. Let your artistic flare run wild at the festival, where Rivers of the World will simply inspire you and make you appreciate the notorious River Thames even more. Under guidance from professional artists, create impressive artwork together and see other pieces from around the world displayed at the National Theatre, by Tate Modern, by Tower Bridge, London Bridge City Pier, More London and in City Hall. Work with artists from Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and more and learn about the inspirational local rivers of the globe.
