We’re coming up to a month before the day that only seems like yesterday. Christmas has sneakily crept up on us this year and if you’re ready this blog right now, that means your gift shopping adventures (or nightmares) have yet to begin. The good thing is that you still have plenty of time to plan your festive trip to the shops and for this week’s article, we’re going to give you some hints on where to discover your decorations and purchase your presents.
We’ll start with perhaps the obvious choice when it comes to the best shopping hotspots in London and that’s the world famous Harrods department store just around the corner from Knightsbridge tube station. Harrods is particularly renowned for its lavish celebration of this time of year and is the place to go when you need to sparkle up your home ready for the very merry day. If you’re hosting this year, shop stunning snow globes, dazzling baubles and hand-picked ornaments for a cracking Christmas guaranteed to get you, your family and friends into the spirit. The huge store will also be ready with all your essential Christmas trees, stockings, wreaths, cards and more! If you’re one of the many individuals stressing out over what to buy for your loved ones, fear not. The Harrods gift concierge will be at your service through the festive period to give hard-to-find advice on how to best surprise your nearest and dearest (and maybe guide you if you’re totally lost). What’s more, as our gift to you, the Georgian House is giving guests who stay between 1/11/15 and 31/01/16 a £20 gift card to spend at Harrods! A great way to start off your festive shopping.
For a little bit more than your average shopping experience at the store, pay a visit from Friday 27th Nov to Sunday 29th Nov and expect the unveiling of the magical and, of course legendary Festival of Christmas. Hans Crescent will be completely transformed into an enchanting winter wonderland with special visits from your favourite festive characters, including Santa! Christmassy activities await in the glorious grotto, including hand-painting chocolate classes to beauty brand personalisation. Perhaps surprise your little ones with a trip through the incredible toy workshop, a meal in the grotto café and a chance to sit on Santa’s lap. Tickets are snapped up quick so don’t miss out!
There’s nothing more inspirational at this time of year than a merry market and Central London has many fairs scattered around waiting for you to gaze upon the pretty lights and smell the warm mulled wine. For a traditional Christmas market experience and to find beautifully unique gifts alongside decorations, head to the Christmas Market at Tate Modern. Wooden chalets will glow once again this year and the public are free to browse distinctive jewellery to statement decorations as well as stop for a cheeky chocolate crepe and a warm cup of gluhwein whilst swaying to some festive music. The Monocle Christmas Market in Marylebone is said to be a hidden gem that is returning too for another year to display internationally inspired souvenirs and tasty treats with live music and fun activities. Mayfair Christmas Market will also be set up for you to shop for the all-important Christmas trees, decorations and presents with an opportunity for the kids to visit Santa’s Grotto! Last but certainly not least, back again for 2015 celebrations is Winter Wonderland Hyde Park, where anyone who walks through the gate will walk out feeling the seasonal spirit. Be ready to hear the classic tunes as you wander through the magical path and why not have some family fun at the ice rink, be entertained at the circus or watch the wonder below on the big wheel. This attraction always comes out a winner for a dream-like atmosphere and even if you don’t find anything to put under the tree, at least you had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas!
The capital is lighting up once more this December and has so much to offer, so enjoy the holidays however you like and celebrate Christmas, London style!
