Why we should be excited for London Fashion Week

Celebrating over 30 years of high fashion, the capital is set once again to WOW for the annual London Fashion Week. All the way back from 1984, in a West London car park somewhere, the event has grown bigger and more vibrant every year since and 2017 is certainly not going to disappoint. For the shopaholics and fashion enthusiasts of the city, now is the time to strut your way to these simply fabulous events happening through the week.

Special Events

The list of catwalk shows is endless this year as the designers get ready to show off their stuff to bloggers, press and celebrities. It’s all about what everyone needs to be wearing next season and unfortunately, the chances of anyone that isn’t someone getting a front row ticket, are slim. But have no fear, there is something for all the other fashionists. London Fashion Week Festival is the chance to get involved for fashion lovers (who aren’t high profile bloggers or one of the Kardashians) and join in the catwalk fun. With shows, talks and a spot of designer shopping, you can watch the catwalk action and keep an eye on the key trends too. Then, head to London’s biggest fashion pop-up in Strand, where you’ll find 150 top brands in men’s and women’s clothing for exclusive insider prices. Browse and top up your wardrobe with the must-have looks straight from the catwalk!

Ever felt like asking an expert designer how they did it? Are you wondering what it takes to reach heights in the fashion world? A series of Q&A interviews and panel discussions are taking place at the festival venue, with industry leaders giving their exclusive insights into how they got to where they are today. Get the low down on the new metallic hair trend that’s quickly taking over with a special talk from Toni&Guy (don’t worry, it’s not about putting tin foil in your hair). There is even a masterclass held by Maybelline New York’s Neil Young, who will guide you on how to get catwalk ready and shine like a star!

Lastly, the W London hotel in Leicester Square has announced that once more, it will be hosting the ‘Finishing Touches’ fashion week takeover. This year’s event is all about looking and feeling good for longer, so expect a wide range of health and wellbeing services, such as skincare consultations, nail bars, blowdries and workouts. All this and more will sure put you in the mood to strut your stuff through the city streets when you leave the hotel (until you have to shuffle with the crowds on the Underground).

What else can I do?

If you’ve been inspired by the events, designers and creations of LFW, particularly if you are an aspiring designer or editor, the world of fashion doesn’t end there. To discover more about traditions, history, design and creation, the Festival of Textiles 2017 is being held at the Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey until May. Displays, talks and workshops are all organised to explore the true beauty of textiles and you can even try your hand at tapestry, silk painting, drawing or pattern cutting. Other fashion museums worth visiting include the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Design Museum where you can open your mind to contemporary and historical fashion.

After all that, we think it’s time to hit the shops and dress to impress! We want to help you celebrate and enjoy the London Fashion Week this year, so why not click below to find out more about our City Shopping Package? Expect a little treat to spend at London’s greatest department store, Harrods!
