Chelsea Flower Show Weekend, Without the London Chaos

Chelsea Flower Show 2026

Chelsea Flower Show is one of those rare London events where the city genuinely shifts gear. From 19–23 May 2026, the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea become the centre of the gardening world, with show gardens, designers and an awful lot of carefully arranged plants drawing crowds from across the globe. It’s wonderful. It’s also, predictably, busy.

If you’re heading to the show, the place you choose to stay can shape the whole weekend. Chelsea tends to be heaving with visitors. Our suggestion: stay in Pimlico, walk to the show, and get a bit of peace and quiet after tackling the crowds of flower enthusiasts.

Why Pimlico is a smart base for the show

Pimlico sits between Victoria and the river, on the same side of the Thames as the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Georgian House is on St George’s Drive, comfortably within walking distance of the show grounds for anyone happy with a stroll, and a short cab or tube hop if not. You get the proximity without the price tag (or the queues for tables) that come with staying in Chelsea itself.

The other advantage is the neighbourhood itself. Pimlico is leafy, residential and largely unbothered by the May rush. After a long day on your feet at the show, returning to a calmer pocket of central London is genuinely restorative.

A boutique base with character

Georgian House Hotel is a Grade II listed building that’s been in the same family since 1851. The rooms are individually designed, no two alike, with hand-picked furniture, original details and a real sense of personality. After a day surrounded by considered planting and clever design at Chelsea, there’s a pleasing rhythm to coming back to a hotel that has put a similar level of thought into its own spaces.

A few honest details: there’s no lift, and no air conditioning – we’re an authentic historical building. May in London is usually mild, and fans are provided in every room. If you’d prefer a ground floor room, just say so when booking and the team will do their best.

Plan your show day around real life

Chelsea Flower Show runs 8am to 8pm Tuesday to Friday, and 8am to 5:30pm on Saturday, with the famous plant sell-off starting at 4pm on the final day. Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 May are RHS members’ days; Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 May are open to the public. Tickets sell out, so booking ahead is essential.

Plan for three to five hours inside the showground. The Great Pavilion alone takes time, and that’s before you’ve worked your way around the show gardens. Comfortable shoes, a refillable water bottle and a light layer for British weather are sensible. Then come back, kick off the shoes, and decompress somewhere quiet.

If you can’t get tickets, Chelsea in Bloom is brilliant

Chelsea in Bloom runs at the same time as the main show (19–23 May 2026) and turns the streets around Sloane Square, King’s Road and Pavilion Road into an enormous, free, open-air floral display. Shopfronts compete with extraordinary installations, and the whole thing is genuinely worth a wander even if you do have show tickets.

From Pimlico, it’s a pleasant walk through Belgravia or a short bus or tube hop. Combine it with lunch in one of Chelsea’s independent spots and you’ve got a relaxed half-day plan with no ticket required.

Pimlico’s own gardens are also worth a visit

If Chelsea has put you in a green-fingered mood, Pimlico has more to offer than people realise. St George’s Square Gardens, Pimlico Gardens and the riverside green spaces along the Thames are all within easy reach of the hotel, and largely tourist-free. They’re a lovely way to ease into the morning before heading to the show, or to wind down with a coffee afterwards.A little further on the other side of the River is also the Garden Museum, which has its own beautiful gardens and runs events during Chelsea Flower Show week.

For ideas, our guide to Pimlico’s parks and gardens is a good place to start.

Where to eat without the show-week scrum

Restaurants in Chelsea fill up dramatically during show week, and tables get booked weeks in advance. Pimlico, by contrast, has plenty of independent neighbourhood spots that don’t require the same level of planning. Cafes, wine bars and proper local pubs sit a few minutes from the hotel, and breakfast at the Pimlico Pantry sets you up neatly before a long day on your feet.

Plan your Chelsea Flower Show stay

Chelsea Flower Show weekend is busy across central London, and rooms in this part of town go quickly. Georgian House is a calm, characterful base in Pimlico, walkable to the show grounds and well placed for everything else you’ll want to do that weekend. See our rooms and check availability here
