Going to Apollo Victoria? Stay Close, Sleep Well

A West End show is a big occasion. You’ve got the tickets, you’ve sorted the evening, and now you need somewhere to stay that doesn’t use up all the budget or add unnecessary stress to the day. If you’re heading to the Apollo Victoria Theatre – home to Wicked, now in its milestone 20th anniversary year – you’re going to want a base that puts you right in the heart of things.

Georgian House Hotel is a short walk from the Apollo Victoria, tucked into the streets of Pimlico – a central and characterful part of London that most visitors fall for. It’s the perfect base for a London theatre trip.

Why location matters more than you think

The Apollo Victoria sits on Wilton Road, just across from Victoria Station. Georgian House is on St George’s Drive in Pimlico, meaning you can walk to and from the theatre without worrying about the last tube or late-night Ubers. After a two-hour-and-forty-five-minute show, the ability to stroll back to a comfortable room rather than battle the tube is, frankly, a luxury in itself.

Victoria Station is one of London’s major transport hubs, so whether you’re arriving from across the city, from the south of England, or straight off the Gatwick Express, getting to Georgian House and settling in before your night out will be straightforward.

A hotel with a personality of its own

Georgian House isn’t your average London hotel. It’s a Grade II listed building that’s been in the same family since it was built in 1851, and it shows – in the best possible way. The rooms are all individually designed, no two alike, with hand-picked furniture, bold colour choices, and the kind of character that’s genuinely hard to manufacture.

Fair warning, because we like to always be upfront about this: there’s no lift, and no air conditioning. What there is, though, is a warm welcome, rooms built around real comfort and personality, and a team happy to help with questions, your luggage and support during your stay. If you’re after a authentic and welcoming stay in a beautiful London townhouse, this is for you!

Wizard Chamber room for romantic things to do in London

There’s also the Wizard Chambers – a collection of enchanting, magic-themed rooms that have become something of a talking point. If you’re heading to Wicked with younger theatregoers in tow, they make the perfect addition to the trip, and you could add our very popular Wizard Afternoon Tea to your stay to enjoy some tasty treats and potions!

Making a night of it

One of the advantages of staying near the Apollo Victoria is that the Victoria and Pimlico area gives you genuine options before and after the show. There’s a good range of restaurants and bars within easy reach, and Pimlico itself has a number of high quality independents that will give you a true London experience.

With Wicked running for nearly 3 hours, an early dinner before the show is a good idea – and consider a drink somewhere close afterwards before you head back. The short, picturesque walk back to Georgian House at the end of the night – rather than onto a packed commuter service – is one of those small things that makes the whole trip feel worth it.

Breakfast the morning after

Start the next morning properly with breakfast at Georgian House’s Pimlico Pantry. It’s a chance to take stock, compare notes on the show the night before, and decide what London has in store for the rest of your trip. There’s no rush here – it’s a boutique hotel, not a conveyor belt, and the breakfasts are rightly celebrated for the wide range of freshly made produce.

Wicked in 2026: worth the trip

If you haven’t seen Wicked yet, 2026 is a good year to go. The show is marking its 20th anniversary at the Apollo Victoria – a milestone that’s rare in West End theatre. It’s already one of the longest-running productions in West End history and books up quickly. Getting your tickets sorted in advance is strongly recommended.

The show is recommended for ages 7 and above, and children under 5 are not admitted. Evening performances run Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm. Running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes including a 20-minute interval.
