If you’re lucky enough to have been blessed by Cupid, that special day is on its way once again where you have the chance to sweep your other half off their loved-up feet. If Cupid’s not come to you just yet, you’re probably pretending that February 14th doesn’t exist. Either way, we’ve decided that Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just about the lovebirds and that everyone should enjoy a great day or evening out with their partner or friends (because you love them too, right?) This year, London has got some pretty exciting events coming up for the week of Valentine’s and some of them could actually be better spent with mates! Nobody should be missing out, so here’s what we recommend you get up to…
Who says champagne is for celebrating?
For something a little different on Valentine’s Day, whether you’re a couple or whether you simply love a glass of champers, the Bourne and Hollingsworth buildings in Islington are hosting a very classy tasting session with some of the finest rosé champagnes to ever be created. Welcomed with a champagne cocktail to get your taste buds going, you can learn about the highly complex process of champagne making and taste some of the luxury brands such as Moet, Veuve Cliquot and Dom Perignon. Though, the event is only running for an hour, because any longer than that and you’ll never find your way home. If you are looking to give a special treat to your other half, a more romantic masterclass is being held nearby in Islington where you can taste and learn about whisky along with the art of cocktails. And just as an extra surprise (singletons look away now), arrange with the venue for a bunch of roses to be given to your partner on arrival!
For a casual evening in a chilled-out environment, make your way to Shoreditch where the NightJar (often praised as one of the best bars in the world) is set up and ready with its theatrically themed cocktails and soothing live jazz music. Just perfect for a chat with a drink and maybe a little dance with your partner or your friends. If you want even more glitz and groove, the Jazz Box in Aldgate has got a super cool night of champagne, canapes, funky music and some prizes to be won with their Groove and Soul Superfly party happening on Saturday 11th. It’s going to be a lot of fun for couples and anyone else who fancies dressing up for a night of 80s, hip-hop and soul music!
Your favourite attractions… after dark
Mix it up this Valentine’s Day and spend the evening with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian and the Royal Family. Unfortunately, this is not an exclusive party at Buckingham Palace, but at Madame Tussauds! The adults-only event is a late-night opening on the 14th and on 2 other dates in February, enjoying special VIP access, complimentary champers and of course, freedom to take as many selfies with the stars as you like. Venture into a new dimension with the 4D Marvel show that will have you on the edge of your seat, explore a galaxy far-far away with the Star Wars exhibition and ride through London’s history on the Spirit of London ride. It’s an exclusive event not to be missed this year and is perfect for a date night or fun with friends.
Dive down into the deep blue depths at the Sea Life after dark event where you can wander and gaze at the beauty of ocean life. Pick up your glass of prosecco and start your adventure with the Shark Walk, a glass path that is just inches from the sharks swimming below before moving on to watch the giant sea turtles glide through the water and seeing the arctic penguins play in their habitat. With various pop up bars scattered throughout the venue, walk around at your own pace and be sure to ask the guest experience advisors more about life beneath the surface.
Got an appetite yet?
How does brunch and bottomless Bloody Marys sound for a valentine’s/non-valentine’s celebration? Head to Haunt at Stoke Newington on the 11th Feb for a not so lovey-dovey event and expect an array of funk, soul and disco music as you enjoy a special valentine’s brunch menu. Ever had a six-course meal before? Pop Brixton is adding some serious style to your Valentine’s dinner with some classic and VERY romantic Italian flavours in the dishes. The extensive menu is simply irresistible and is accompanied with charming Italian music, film screenings and a romantic vibe. On just Tuesday the 14th only, wow your loved one with this simply beautifully traditional Italian celebration. Many other restaurants all over London, such as the highly recommended Berners Tavern, The Delaunay and Claude’s Kitchen are ready to welcome couples and singles with a delicious menu, to leave you feeling happy whoever you’re with!
