Another year over! Who can believe it’s now time to take down all the festive lights and decorations from around your house. But don’t worry, it’ll soon be September and the Christmas hype starts again. Meanwhile, everyone’s kicking off their 2017 with new year’s resolutions and an optimistic outlook on the future ahead. If one of your resolutions was to stress less, explore more and spend precious time with loved ones, we’ve got the perfect way to get you started. January isn’t all doom and gloom, there’s lots going on around the capital that you and your family can get involved in and have some fun.
The London Boat Show
For 10 days and 10 days only, the ExCel London is celebrating 60 years of the London Boat Show by bringing together experts, exhibits and even celebrities to showcase the fabulous boating industry. Get a look into the latest trends and the most sought-after products in boating, as well as a peek into next water-sport crazes of the future. From the 6th January, there will be over 300 exhibitors attending over the 10 days and displaying only the best in the marine world, from classic boats to luxurious yachts! If you are visiting with young children, the great news is that kids go free and there’s plenty of fun activities to get them splashing. Let them go for a ride on the bumper boats, a new attraction at this year’s boat show, and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. See if they would like to try their hand at kayaking or powerboating at the Watersports Park completely for free, or even experience the fascinating virtual reality on board a Clipper Race Yacht. All this and much more including live shows, quizzes and chartering a boat is just great for a family day out doing something different.
Sea Life Centre
We promise this blog isn’t maritime themed, we just think that the Sea Life Centre would be the perfect next destination to explore the underwater world after sailing around above it! Discover the ultimate aquarium experience with your family, gazing into the world of the most magical creatures, many you didn’t even know existed! From sharks, to clownfish, the list of sea life animals is simply incredible and lots of them are on the endangered list too, so you and your kids can contribute towards conserving their ocean environment and ensure they have a lovely home to swim around in. Get up close with the penguins at the penguin point and watch them waddle around the icy surface, flop onto their bellies and slide down the ice to soar through the water and play. Watch the ferocious sharks glide menacingly around their habitat and if you’ve really got some guts, dive into the snorkel with sharks experience! Tropical sea turtles are simply mesmerising to observe and Sea Life strives to rescue, rehabilitate and eventually release the endangered species. All these wonderful animals and many more await at the Sea Life Centre, making it a fun and educational underwater adventure for the whole family.
The endless number of museums
There literally is a museum for everything in London and they all make a great day out that’s interactive, engaging and fun for everyone. The Natural History Museum boasts a remarkable collection of natural phenomena, while the Science Museum is armed with many hands-on exhibits and some simply mind-boggling displays! Nobody can ever get tired of the most famous wax museum, Madame Tussauds and the all of the celebrities within ready to strike a pose in your selfie. The London Dungeon transports you back in time to uncover the dark secrets of London and who knows what notoriously dangerous figures of the past you’ll come across.
There’s nothing quite like a feel-good musical
The best West End musicals for families are the most heart-warming and entertaining ones than keep you singing along right until the curtains close. The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre is still going amazingly strong after many years of performances and is simply an outstanding show. From the costumes to the stage setting, you are guaranteed to feel like you are in the African atmosphere with all the creatures on stage. Sing along to your favourite tunes from Disney’s Aladdin, a colourful and exciting performance bringing the magical story to life, or tempt your taste buds with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Whichever one you choose, you’ll sure to be tapping your feet along to the beat.
