The Georgian House Hotel in London was built in 1851 by William Chinnery Mitchell, the great-great-grandfather of current owner Serena von der Heyde. Working under the guidance of renowned Victorian master builder Thomas Cubitt, Mitchell developed the property in Pimlico with distinctive architectural features such as 10-panel doors and a decorative string motif. Though named “Georgian,” the hotel is a fine example of Victorian architecture, reflecting its rich heritage and historical charm.

The Georgian House Hotel has been in the same family since it was built in 1851 by William Chinnery Mitchell. Passed down through five generations, its legacy continues today through his great-great-granddaughter, Serena von der Heyde, who took over in 1987 and transformed it into a leading family-run boutique hotel in London.

The tradition carries on with Serena’s son, Gabriel von der Heyde, now serving as Business Development Manager at Your Place Hotels Group, supporting the family’s vision for modern hospitality rooted in heritage. This continuity of ownership has preserved the hotel’s unique character, offering guests a warm, personal experience that blends historic charm with contemporary comfort.

William Chinnery Mitchell designed The Georgian House with distinctive Victorian and Georgian architectural features that remain intact today. One of the most distinctive elements is the elegant stucco-fronted façade, a hallmark of mid-19th century London townhouses. The building showcases classic sash windows, ornate cornicing, and decorative ironwork balconies, reflecting the refined tastes of the era.

Mitchell’s attention to symmetry and proportion. Since then, it has undergone significant expansion and renovation and now comprises 45 uniquely designed rooms, each individually styled to blend historic charm with modern comfort.

This growth reflects the hotel’s evolution from a small, traditional B&B into one of Pimlico’s most distinctive boutique hotels, offering a wide range of accommodations while preserving its rich architectural heritage.
