The first and probably the favourite bank holiday of the year is approaching, so it’s time to start planning how you and your partner/friends/family are going to celebrate Easter! London is rich with exciting activities for absolutely anyone and everyone, with some particular events occurring for the kids and the grown-ups too.
First of all, it’s not Easter if there is no chocolate involved. Luckily, there is a special event ongoing exclusively for confessed chocoholics. Brace your taste buds for the utterly irresistible London Chocolate Tour, a two hour walk around Soho and Mayfair nosing in on some of the very finest dessert boutiques and chocolatiers and yes, there will be samples. Learn all about the history of the production and trade of chocolate whilst feasting your eyes on some of the world’s most delightful and award-winning creations. Some stores you’ll explore include Hotel Chocolat, East India Company and Paul A Young among others. Of course, along the way keep an eye out for some of the other famous sites of London. Did you know that chocolate is actually one of nature’s superfoods as a source of magnesium and a stress reliever? Thought we should mention it, so that you don’t feel guilty tasting all of this chocolate!
Another chocolatey event for all the family (though not for the faint hearted) this Easter is being held within the dark walls of the London Dungeon where you will certainly not find any fluffy bunnies or daffodils. Later in March, the dungeon shall be opening up its very own Victorian sweet shop and daring you to give in to the resistance of its colourful chocolate selection. However, the owner of the shop, Miss Edmunds is notorious for slipping poison into her tempting treats, so choose wisely and be prepared to not to bite into tasty truffle or smooth praline. This will be a guaranteed fun and thrilling experience for families and why not venture around the rest of the dungeon exploring London’s chilling history? If you dare…
If you would prefer to stay out in the open air rather than shuffling through creepy corridors, River Lee Country Park is going to be hosting a two-day fair packed with traditional activities and entertainment ideal for anyone. The Easter Country Fair will be held from Sunday 5th April to Monday 6th and some of the displays include a motorcycle stunt, birds of prey and a companion dog show as well as a ferret race (must be a new tradition or something). For the little ones or if you are a sucker for cute things, there will be a chance to feed some baby lambs at the Goat Show! Also, take a tour around the Medieval Village where you may come across some brave knights in action. Food and drink as well as gift shops for souvenirs are scattered around, topping off what could be a fantastic day out (providing it doesn’t rain).
For a more relaxing Easter Sunday, head up to the Roof Gardens in Kensington where you can be spoilt with delicious cocktails whilst admiring the beautiful 1.5 acres of pure green, away from the busy madness of London streets. If you have children, they can join the Easter bunny and embark on a special Easter hunt to win a chocolatey prize. Think of all the places to hide little treats; that will surely keep them entertained while you soak up the blissful fresh air.
Other special events happening at Easter include The Ideal Home Show Spring, a trip back to the 60s for Le Beat Bespoké Weekender and The Syngenta Photography Award Expedition. Let’s not forget the musicals, museums, attractions and many more activities that await you in London, so there is simply no excuse to not have a ‘egg-celent’ Easter weekend!
