Your family guide to Summer 2017 in London

The summer holiday is on its way and we know that six weeks seems like a long time to keep your kids entertained, but you can be sure the capital is ready for that smidgeon of sunshine to get you and your family outdoors and enjoying the season. As a family business, the Georgian House is the perfect home-away-from-home getaway and with plenty of family-friendly events happening all around town, you can take your pick and create a fun-filled plan to make the most of summer this year! Here’s how you can spend some quality time with your little ones…

Some outdoor fun

Who doesn’t love a hamper filled with picnic goodies to munch on while relaxing in one of London’s most beautiful parks? Some of the favourite green locations in the city are great for a family day out, with playgrounds, pretty gardens and wildlife (not including pigeons). St James’s Park is known as a family haven on a sunny day and a popular choice for those with younger children. A newly refurbished playground is hours of fun for toddlers and the resident birds are friendly enough to say hi to… as long as you have some bread with you. To let little imaginations run wild, head to Diana Memorial Playground in Kensington Gardens, where the Peter Pan inspired play area is full of cool surprises from pirate ships to sandy beaches. Or, if you’ve just had an exhausting trip around ZSL London Zoo, Regent’s Park is right next door, with a range of food and music festivals held throughout the season alongside tennis courts, open theatres and a tempting ice cream stand to enjoy!

Farm life in the city

It’s baby farm animal season, so be sure to get your dose of cute-ness this summer and take your children to see, feed and learn about all kinds of farm animals. From Canary Wharf’s llamas to Kentish Town’s friendly goats, you’ll be surprised at the wildlife happily living in the busy city and many of the farms are also ready to entertain the little ones with some hands-on activities and workshops. Deen City farm is the place to be if your kids want to see some of the cutest baby ducklings, chicks and lambs before meeting the farm’s resident alpaca, Kimby! The Wimbledon National Trust estate is a great day out where the kids can get a taste of life on a farm and see the animal’s faces light up when it’s feeding time. The Kentish Town City farm gets our vote, as it’s all about children and a whole weekend of workshops to unleash their creativity and enjoy the fresh air. Meet a recent litter of piglets, ducks, chickens, goats and more before trying out a horse-riding programme and help build a working kiln. Run by local community volunteers, expect a friendly welcome from the team who are passionate about their lovely little farm.

Attractions

We can’t go without mentioning the never-ending list of fantastic attractions and sites that will make your summer in London complete. You can take your kids on an educational journey back through time at the Natural History Museum, or even go forward in time at the Science Museum. Explore the underwater world at Sea Life or dare to discover the city’s dark history at the London Dungeons! The best thing about all these attractions, is that there is always something new in the pipeline to make your experience that much more exciting! Gaze upon some of the world’s most iconic landmarks right here in the capital: The Shard, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and Buckingham Palace are just a few of the many fascinating sites that are the essence of London’s culture and history. Or to make things a little simpler, get a great view of all the landmarks 100-metres up on the London Eye!

Kick back and relax

What a day! Whatever you’ve been up to in the city, we bet you’re absolutely cream-crackered after all the family-fun. It’s slipper O’clock, and we don’t mean just for the grown-ups! The Georgian House welcomes families with open arms and is ready to spoil your kids just as much as we spoil you. Mini bath robes, no-tears shampoo and activity packs are just a few of the extras we provide for the young ones during your stay. And, don’t forget our simply delicious and award-winning breakfast in the very homely Pimlico Pantry, where the kids can fuel up ready for their day out with a ‘Mini Georgians Breakfast’ and you can get your well-needed fresh coffee! Book today and get your summer off to a smashing start.
